The rules for using Avahere, in plain language. Avahere is free, we connect customers with local businesses, and the deal you make is between you and the business.

Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Avahere ("Avahere", "we", "us"). They apply when you use avahere.com and our related sites, including business.avahere.com and support.avahere.com (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
You must be 18 or older to create an account, send a job request, leave a review or claim a business.
What Avahere is, and isn't
Avahere is a free local directory and marketplace. We help people find local businesses in Nassau County, NY, and we pass job requests from customers to the businesses they choose.
- We connect you; we don't do the work. Avahere doesn't provide the services listed, doesn't employ the businesses and isn't a party to any agreement between a customer and a business.
- We don't guarantee businesses or customers. We don't guarantee the quality, safety, timing, price or legality of any work, or that any business holds a license or insurance. Check for yourself before you hire. See Choosing a business.
- Badges say exactly what was checked. If we show a badge, it describes the check we did and when. Information a business provides, like a license number, is labeled as provided by the business unless we checked it.
- We're independent. Avahere isn't affiliated with Google, Yelp or Nassau County government.
Free to use
Avahere is free for customers and for businesses. We don't charge lead fees, commission, subscriptions or contracts, and we don't ask for payment details to claim or run a page. If we ever offer optional paid features, we'll tell you clearly before they're available, and we'll never charge you without your agreement.
Your account
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password private. You're responsible for activity on your account.
- Tell us right away at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your account.
Business listings and claiming
- Listings. We may list businesses in our directory using business directory data, whether or not the business has signed up.
- Claiming. You may claim a page only if you own the business or are authorized to manage it. We may ask you to verify, ask for documents, refuse or reverse a claim, and settle competing claims as we see fit.
- Your page, your responsibility. Once you claim a page, you're responsible for what it says, including services, prices, hours, licenses and insurance. Don't publish anything false or misleading, and hold any license the law requires for your work.
- Removal. Anyone may ask us to remove a listing with our removal form. We review each request and may remove, keep or change a listing at our discretion.
Job requests, quotes and hiring
- Customers: describe your job honestly and only send requests you're genuinely considering.
- Businesses: reply in good faith, quote honestly and only contact customers about their request. Don't use customer details for marketing or anything else, and don't share or sell them.
- The deal is between you. Quotes, prices, schedules, contracts, payments and warranties are between the customer and the business. Avahere isn't responsible for them and isn't an agent of either side.
- We may limit, hold or remove requests and responses that look fake, abusive or unsafe.
Reviews
- Reviews must reflect the reviewer's own, real experience with the business.
- Businesses may ask customers for reviews, but must ask all of them, and must not offer anything in return or pressure anyone to change or remove a review.
- Don't review your own business, your employer, a relative's business or a competitor.
- Businesses can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden. We remove reviews only when they break our review guidelines, and we may label reviews to show where they came from.
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you post, such as page details, photos, reviews and messages. You give Avahere a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reformat (for example, resize photos), translate and distribute your content to operate, improve and promote the Service. This license ends when your content is removed from the Service, except for copies we must keep for legal reasons and content others have already shared.
Only post content you have the right to post. Don't post photos of people or their homes without permission. We may remove content that breaks these Terms.
Rules for using the Service
Don't:
- Break the law, or help anyone else do so
- Post false, misleading, defamatory, hateful, harassing or sexually explicit content
- Impersonate anyone or misrepresent your connection to a business
- Send spam, fake job requests or fake reviews
- Post other people's private information
- Scrape, copy or harvest data from the Service, or access it with bots, except search engines following our robots.txt
- Interfere with, probe or overload the Service, or get around its security or limits
- Use the Service to collect leads for another service or to resell customer information
Text messages
By giving us your phone number, you agree that we may text or call you about things you asked for, such as verification codes, and about your account or job requests. We send automated marketing texts only if you agree to them separately; that agreement is never required to use Avahere. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts, or HELP for help. Carriers aren't liable for delayed or undelivered messages. More in our Privacy Policy.
Other websites
The Service links to websites and services we don't control, including businesses' own websites. We're not responsible for their content or practices.
Our rights
Avahere, our logo and the design of the Service belong to us. Don't use them without our permission, except to link to your Avahere page. We may change, suspend or stop any part of the Service at any time.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that listings are complete, accurate or current, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Avahere won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, or for anything a business or customer does or fails to do. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to one hundred US dollars ($100). Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Indemnity
If you break these Terms or the law, or your content causes a claim against Avahere, you agree to defend and hold Avahere harmless from the resulting claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees.
Ending your use
You can stop using the Service at any time and ask us to close your account. We may suspend or end your access, remove content or unpublish a page if you break these Terms or put others at risk. Sections that by their nature should survive, such as content licenses already granted, disclaimers, limits on liability and indemnity, continue after your use ends.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Nassau County, New York, and you and Avahere agree to their jurisdiction.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. We'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll give notice on the Service or by email before it takes effect. Using the Service after a change means you accept the new Terms.
